August 11, 2008 Final Days
The end of summer came quickly, far too quickly for this NwC intern. Three months flew by without even a blink of an eye and already the homestead is beginning to gear up for the bustle of fall and the arrival of students. This blog was started out of a love for a place, out of a desire help those that are connected with the homestead to stay in touch with this place and with NwC, and in this final week I’ve felt no shortage of that adoration. Its hard to leave and head back to the much less mountainous Midwest; the summer has been busy, the homestead hopping, and it’s been a delight to reflect on it each week—hope you have enjoyed it too. That being said, things are rolling right along here at Connections as I step out this week. After returning from their varied vacation locations, the NwCers will be heading full force into a second bout of black bear DNA work and soldiering forward with preparations for the arrival of students in a few weeks. There will be eleven new Landscape & Livelihooders hitting the bunks here in the barn and it looks to be a good crew headed our way! With the newest L&L crew comes Zach, our semester intern for 2008. Zach worked with NwC as a Winter Field Studies intern last year and the office is abuzz with excitement for his return—Zach and the students will be taking on the wide world of blogging come September. Until then, I leave you in the ever capable hands of our resident naturalist and homestead guru Adam. God’s speed Adam and Zach, may the wind be always at your back, and the homestead happenings plentiful. It’s been a fun and beautiful summer, Cori |
