REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS

-- Letter of application, including the following information:

  • Name, date, current address, current phone, permanent address, permanent phone
  • E-mail address, birth date, social security number
  • University you are currently attending; degree program and major declared; expected date of graduation
  • Where did you hear about this program?
  • Names and phone numbers of three references (see below)

-- Written responses to the following interview questions:

  • Please describe your previous experience and education in any field related to ecology, environmental studies or natural resource management.
  • Please describe your reasons for wanting to participate in the Landscape and Livelihood Field Semester.
  • How do you see this program tying into your future plans?Describe your experience/success with independent study.
  • What experience/success do you have living and working with a small group of people?

-- Official copy of transcripts for undergraduate work.

-- Three personal references: 

Please submit 3 written references from professors and employers.  In addition to discussing your accomplishments and potential for success in the Field Semester program, reference letters should indicate the length of time and in what capacity this person has known you.  All three letters should be included in your application in sealed and signed envelopes.

-- $25 non-refundable application fee.

NORTHWEST CONNECTIONS SCHOLARSHIPS

We offer scholarships for students who would otherwise be unable to attend the Field Semester.  Scholarships are based on a combination of financial need and academic merit. All scholarship applications are due by April 1st.

In order to apply for a Northwest Connections scholarship, please provide us with each of the following:

-- A copy of your financial aid form (FAFSA).

-- A letter of financial need explaining what we need to know to understand the full picture of your financial status. Please include in this letter the following information:

  • What type(s) of financial aid do you currently receive?
  • What is your projected financial aid award for the year in which you hope to be attending the Landscape and Livelihood Field Semester?
  • What has your financial aid office told you about transferring this aid to Northwest Connections (NwC)? (via a consortium agreement, for example)
  • How much scholarship money (above and beyond what you will be able to transfer from your current financial aid) do you need from NwC to be able to attend the field semester?
