While searching for tracks, students discovered the remains of a dead mountain lion, likely killed by another lion during a territorial dispute.

Students become skilled in identifying tracks, such as these tracks of a fisher searching for its prey.

A student measures the print of a lynx.

Otter tracks in the upland forest are not unheard of. Here, students measure otter tracks to get a sense of body size. Students take a lunch break on frozen Crystal Lake in the Mission Mountains.

Throughout the course, observations and data are recorded in field journals.
