Swan Mountains

Animal Tracking

We will be traveling on snowshoes or cross-country skis depending on the weather.  During the day we will be hunting for tracks of forest carnivores such as ermine, marten, fisher, wolverine and lynx.  In the evening, we will cook dinner together, do some stargazing and perhaps look at slides of our target species and their tracks.  Our data about these animals will help USFS biologists better manage habitat.

Timetable:

4 p.m., Friday, December 15 - Leave Eastgate Albertson's parking lot in Missoula.
5:30 p.m.  - leave Wold's Market parking lot in Seeley Lake.
We will spend Friday night in the Swan Valley with Tom and Melanie Parker (Northwest Connections' directors) at their home in Condon.
We'll spend Saturday and Sunday snowshoeing or skiing and will be back at Tom & Melanie's for dinner.
2:30 p.m. -Arrive back at Wold's Market in Seeley Lake.
