Wildlands Volunteer Corps The Wildlands Volunteer Corps (WVC) puts high school students from Missoula County on the frontlines of local conservation work. Working in partnership with Missoula County's Flagship Program,we monitor streams and their watersheds, as well as a variety of plant and animal species. Most of our work focuses on the Swan Valley and Swan and Mission Mountains. However, Volunteer Corps crews have also worked in upper Lolo Creek, the Ninemile Valley and Reservation Divide, and the Rattlesnake Wilderness Area. Used by the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Montana's Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, our data is crucial to managing habitat, setting priorities for restoration work and better understanding Montana's plant and animal species. During the 2000/2001 academic year, we will run projects 1 to 2 weekends per month. The following calendar will help you with dates and brief descriptions of our fall projects. Click on project titles below to learn more about each project. If you want to sign up for a specific project, click on the "Sign Me Up!" button. If you're wondering what gear you will need to participate, click on "What to bring." You can call Melanie in Swan Valley at 754-3185 or Andrea in Missoula at 542-1815 for more information.
